Can You Make A Laser Driver Circuit From A DVD Burner?

I feel this video may be a little controversial as people claim to have done it (although little or no credible evidence has been found).
This is my findings in making a driver circuit with nothing but the components inside a DVD burner/ HDDVD drive.

I've used 2 DVD burners and an X-box HDDVD drive for this video.

If you know of a way to do this by all means post a video response and let us all watch in awe as you do what I deem to be impossible.

This component compares 2 voltages or currents and switches its output to signify which is larger

This is a step down converter which could be useful but would need other components to be properly useful.

There were other components but finding out what they all do would take too long so these 2 are the ones I found the most of in the optical drives. Most of the components would probably get fried by your soldering iron as you de-soldered them, I found it quite tricky to get the parts I did, especially the capacitors they were held on with some industrial strength solder.

The best and my favourite thing to use in laser builds. I've tried it, I've tested it and can confirm it works!

Remember lasers are dangerous, they are NOT toys! Never point lasers at any living thing / moving vehicles! Be sensible and responsible when using lasers!
